John Duffy, co-founder of Gray•Duffy, LLP, has a practice which covers a broad spectrum of civil litigation matters, including insurance, construction defect, education, medical and legal malpractice, and employment law. He has extensive trial and litigation experience, representing clients in more than 50 jury trials, and in hundreds of hearings and arbitrations. Mr. Duffy also serves as a mediator assisting parties in privately resolving their disputes.
Most recently, Mr. Duffy has successfully defended business owners, property owners and individuals in various civil lawsuits in State and Federal Court arising out of serious personal injuries and property damage claims. As a former high school teacher, he also has unique familiarity with education law, having previously represented the Los Angeles Unified School District as well as numerous private schools.
Mr. Duffy obtained his Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame completing a double major in Political Science and Economics. While attending law school, he received practical trial experience with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office trying cases. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Duffy served in the U.S. Army. He is also a native of New Jersey.
He is admitted to practice law in California and was previously admitted in New Jersey. He is also admitted to the United States District Court, Central District of California and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
Mr. Duffy teaches Insurance Law at Ventura College of Law.
Mr. Duffy conducts mediations and arbitrations for the Los Angeles Superior Court, and serves as a Judge Pro Tem in the Los Angeles Superior Court. He regularly participates on industry panels and speaks on subjects including risk management and other insurance litigation topics.
