Hired Attorney Geoffrey Hoatson

In October 2023, I hired Geoffrey Hoatson’s firm to manage my mother’s Medicaid application and assets, but their mistakes caused significant financial and emotional harm. They failed to follow up on their own strategy suggestions, ignored dozens of my emails for updates/information. They submitted an incomplete Medicaid application, which was denied, leaving us with $20,000 in unpaid nursing home bills. Later, they tried to negotiate a payment plan with the nursing home requiring my mother to live there indefinitely and use her SS benefits to pay off the debt. This plan was made without my knowledge and directly opposed our family’s wishes. They also gave incorrect advice about an investment, leading to $37,000 in early termination fees. November '23, they executed a DPOA but left out key information on the notarized signature page. They later attempted to "fix" this in January '25 by adding the missing details after the fact. These are just a few of the serious mistakes they made.

The Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings process is the gold standard due to its objectivity and comprehensiveness. Lawyers solicited for peer reviews include both those selected by the attorney being reviewed and lawyers independently selected by Martindale-Hubbell. All reviewers are verified as attorneys through Martindale-Hubbell’s extensive attorney database. Only attorneys practicing at least three years and receiving a sufficient number of reviews from non-affiliated attorneys are eligible to receive a Rating.

What are the different Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings?*
