Nkem Obata concentrates her practice in insurance defense litigation. Prior to joining Margolis Edelstein, Nkem worked as law clerk at the Department of Justice and served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Collins J. Seitz Jr. of the Delaware Supreme Court.
During law school, Nkem served as the student bar association president, DEI chair of the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law, and Co-manager of Internal Affairs in the Transactional Law Honor Society. Nkem was a clinical student in the environmental clinic where she assists in representing clients seeking to protect the environment in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Nkem was also a clinical student for the Delaware Civil Law Clinic where she provided legal services to survivors of domestic violence with civil legal problems. She also worked as an admission student worker where she was responsible for recruiting new students.
In addition, Nkem received several merit-based scholarships, including Delaware Law’s Dean’s Select Merit Scholarship, Dean Arthur Weeks Outstanding Student Service Award, the Carl Battle & Leon Williams African American Law scholarship, and Dean’s Award for the Advancement of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She also was the recipient of the 2024 Alford Excellence Award from the Multicultural Judges & Lawyers Section of the Delaware State Bar Association. Prior to law school, Nkem earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management at Alabama State University.
