About Lauren A. Black

Lauren is an Associate who concentrates her practice in corporate and complex commercial litigation in the Delaware state and federal courts. Lauren is admitted to practice law in Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Lauren is a 2021 graduate of Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law, where she served as Pro Bono Chair for the Pennsylvania Innocence Project and the Homeless Advocacy Project. While earning her J.D. at Villanova School of Law, she was a legal intern for the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office, where she litigated preliminary hearings, and negotiated waivers and summary guilty pleas in the District Courts of Delaware County. She also performed legal research and reviewed academic literature on issues of constitutional law as a research assistant for the Dean of Villanova Law School, Mark Alexander. Prior to law school, Lauren graduated from the University of Tampa, cum lade, with a B.A. in International and Cultural Studies, and minors in Spanish and History.

In Applied Energetics, Inc. v. Gusrae Kaplan Nusbaum PLLC, 2024 WL 1653743 (Del. Super.) aff’d, 2024 WL 513007 (Del. Supreme Ct.), Robert Katzenstein and Lauren Black represented a law firm and a former partner in a malicious prosecution case and secured dismissal based on lack of personal jurisdiction. The defendants had previously represented clients in two unrelated Delaware Court of Chancery cases. The plaintiff filed suit alleging malicious prosecution based on a case the defendants had filed in New York. The Superior Court dismissed the complaint, holding that the plaintiff failed to identify sufficient Delaware contacts to establish personal jurisdiction over the defendants. After briefing and oral argument, the Delaware Supreme Court affirmed the dismissal.

In Weird Science LLC, et al. v. Renovaro Biosciences, Inc., et al., C.A. No. 2023-0599-MTZ, Neal Belgam and Lauren Black secured a complete dismissal in the Delaware Court of Chancery on behalf of a law firm and one of its partners. They successfully defeated claims for fraudulent inducement, fraudulent concealment, tortious interference with contract, and breach of fiduciary duty arising from their clients’ representation of a counterparty in a merger transaction.

In Davies v. Office of the Auditor of Accounts,C.A. No. K22c-05-030 (Del. Super. Ct.) Kelly Green, Julie O’Dell and Lauren Black served as Served as lead counsel defending against a Whistleblower claim brought by a former employee. This matter was resolved.
