About Tina M. Maiolo

Tina Maiolo partners with clients to operate, grow and excel in their businesses. She partners with her clients to assist them on a day to day basis with routine employment decisions, but also leads her team in litigation of employment and labor matters, business immigration, civil rights issues, contracts, and all types of business law and commercial litigation. Tina serves many clients as general counsel on employment matters. Her practice extends throughout all types of industries, both for and not-for profit, and companies of all sizes.

Tina represents clients in all business, commercial and employment-related matters. She routinely practices in local and federal courts (both trial and appellate), the EEOC and local FEP agencies, the NLRB, arbitration forums, and all types of administrative hearings. She defends employers in all aspects of wrongful termination, hostile work environment and/ or adverse action claims, whether based on protected status or contract.

Tina serves as general counsel for corporations, associations and organizations, providing day-to-day advice on employment-related matters. She provides employers with risk management services, including the review and development of internal policies and practices. Through individual training and group seminars, Tina advises her clients to prevent employment law and civil rights violations, and minimize damages.

As part of her immigration practice, the Embassy of Italy in the United States has certified Tina as its official referral counsel for requests for legal aid that the embassy receives from its constituency. Tina handles all types of business-related immigration matters for both employers and employees throughout the country.

As part of her business law and commercial litigation practice, Tina drafts and negotiates all types of contracts, including employment agreements, compensation packages, separation or termination agreements, noncompete agreements, and non-solicitation agreements. When needed, she defends clients in litigation arising out of such agreements. Given the nature of these claims, Tina is always ready to jump into a case to seek a temporary restraining order or preliminary injunction to prevent continued breach and damages pending a matter’s resolution.

Tina is highly experienced with the considerations and interests unique to nonprofits and charitable organizations and religious institutions in employment, civil rights, and general litigation matters. She has represented clients in multimillion-dollar claims involving church property law, the ministerial exception in employment law, and the Free Establishment Clause that precludes civil courts from delving into the policy and governance of religious institutions.

Tina is also the Firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee Co-chair. She serves as the corporate secretary and member of the Board of Directors for both Casa Italiana Language School (CILS) and Casa Italiana Sociocultural Center (CISC) in Washington, D.C. CILS promotes the Italian language through Italian language classes, cooking classes and ceramic classes. CISC promotes, preserves and cares for programs and cultural activities of the Italian-American community and presents the best of Italian culture to the larger society through diverse events such as concerts, conferences, art and crafts shows and other social gatherings. CISC is also establishing the Italian American Museum in D.C. (IAMDC), to preserve and share the contributions that Italians and Italian-American have made in our Nation’s Capital.
