There are complex rules in the area of wills, estates, and trusts. Clients with medium to large estates need to focus on the tax consequences of death and the difference between the federal and state (Rhode Island / Massachusetts / Connecticut estate tax rules). Proper planning requires the estate planner to look at the marital deduction, gift taxes, credit for state estate taxes, and charitable contributions. Typically the client will be concerned about passing through to estate beneficiaries the largest portion of the estate possible. Coupled with discussion on these points, Robert E. Bollengier will look at whether outright bequests are best advised for the client as opposed to consideration of using trusts for family members, such as the marital deduction trust coupled with the family trust. Clients are also advised on the use of Living Trusts vs. Testamentary Trusts.

He helped me take care of a problem I had with a credit card company. Without him I could not have taken care of the problem. He was a little forgetful and sometimes forgot to call me but I didn't charge me a lot and I was unemployed at the time.

I hired him and paid him for years - I KEPT paying him and he kept putting me off with one excuse after another, and I was always sympathetic because it was always something like an illness or family obligation. But he was grossly incompetent, mismanaging paperwork, failing to return calls, and we would go months without hearing from him. Finally, we gave up and complained to the RI board (I now know others have as well) and they defended him because he replied that he was willing to "keep working" on the case and said he told us it could take a long time. They completely disregarded the extreme neglect of his clients for months on end as if it were commonplace. This was, hands-down, the most terrible business experience I've had. It was physically and emotionally exhausting and left me literally sick. And I showed him nothing but respect, the whole time, and really believed that he was on my side. I guess he was smiling all the way to the bank.
