About John S. Burton, Esq.

John Burton has spent nearly two decades helping individuals, families, and business owners with estate planning, asset protection, business matters, and elder law. He founded J.S. Burton, P.L.C. to create a boutique, family-office style practice where clients can receive long-term guidance that supports multigenerational goals. John takes a holistic approach, combining complex tax planning, trust and estate planning, trust administration, and business law to build plans that are practical, personalized, and designed to evolve as life changes. He earned his undergraduate degree in Behavioral Psychology from Virginia Wesleyan College and his J.D. from Regent University School of Law, concentrating on estate planning, taxation, and business transactions. John holds the Certified Estate Planner (C.E.P.) designation and is a Trust and Estate Practitioner (T.E.P.) with STEP. He also teaches and speaks regularly on estate planning, asset protection, and veterans benefit planning. His work has been recognized through honors including Top Lawyer in Coastal Virginia (2024), National Trial Lawyers distinctions in estate and probate, and the 2025 Pro Bono Service Honor Roll. John is admitted in Virginia and D.C. and appears in several federal courts, including U.S. Tax Court.
