J. Richard Caskey ("Rich"), a Tampa native, focuses his law practice in the areas of estate and trust litigation, fiduciary liability, and probate law. As a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Mediator, Rich also frequently serves as mediator in estate and trust related matters. Rich assists families and fiduciaries in various aspects of estate, trust, and guardianship administration, and handles all aspects of disputes that might arise in those matters, including litigation, mediation, trial, and appeal.
Rich is a member of The Florida Bar Probate Rules Committee, serves on a number of committees of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section ("RPPTL") of The Florida Bar, and is a member of the RPPTL Executive Council. In addition to authoring many published articles, Rich frequently speaks at seminars and other events about estate and trust topics. Rich is past Editor-in-Chief of the Florida Bar RPPTL Section ActionLine magazine, a substantive legal publication with a quarterly circulation of approximately 10,000. He is a past Chairman of Hillsborough County Bar Association Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section and of the HCBA Leadership Institute.
In 2009, Rich was one of only four lawyers in the state selected for the inaugural Florida Super Lawyers "Rising Stars" list in the area of Estate and Trust Litigation.
In 2008, Rich was awarded the James M. "Red" McEwen Memorial Award for outstanding service to the Hillsborough County Bar Association.
Rich attended the University of Florida and is a "Triple Gator," having earned three degrees while there: Rich earned his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Accounting, from the Fisher School of Accounting at the University of Florida; Rich earned his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree with dual concentrations in finance and management; and in 2001, Rich graduated from the University of Florida College of Law, earning his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree with honors.
In the Tampa community, Rich serves on the board of directors of the MacDonald Training Center, an organization dedicated to empowering people with developmental disabilities to lead the lives they choose.
