Founded in 1949 by Ralph D. Gaines, Jr., Gaines, Gaines, P.C. has achieved longevity and success by providing quality legal services with personal attention for clients in Talladega County and throughout east central Alabama. Charles P. Gaines joined the firm in 1981, followed by Mark Rasco in 1990, L. Shaw Gaines in 1996 and Susan Haynes in 2008. Offering a broad scope of legal services to its clients, the primary focus of the firm's practice is civil litigation in all state and federal courts of the region. After a long and successful legal career spanning over 50 years, Ralph D. Gaines, Jr. retired in 2002.

My main lawyer referred to Charlie Gaines due to the need of not being able to get a response from the opposing lawyer in probate/estate matters and the Gaines, Gaines firm being local to the matter. From the beginning, I noticed the bad communication of this firm, which I used for over a year. Sometimes when I asked a question, I would not get a response at all and would have to ask again, thus costing me more money. For example, there was an estate sale and over a year ago I requested Gaines to get as much detailed info as possible from the other side’s lawyer, whom he said he “has a good relationship with”, or from the estate sale company itself. It kept getting shrugged off until a year later he asked if I want an inventory from them. Well yeah, that’s exactly what I’ve been requesting for the longest! I could list many more examples. Terrible, HORRIBLE communication even in the basic sense and broken promises by this company. The one positive is it’s not the costliest firm.

This firm was hired to handle an estate. From the beginning Shaw Gaines couldnt answer specific question I had about how the process of settling the estate worked. When the court date came in May of 2020 everything was on track for the most part. After that I didnt hear from him again until January 2021. I attempted to conta t him numerous times from August up til January when he finally returned my call. I called his office, sent emails, and even stopped by. He was always out of the office. When he finally returned my phone call in January of this year basically 2 years after he was hired, he said that somehow my paperwork was placed in my file and never mailed to me. They were supposed to be sent to me if July, was his exact words, everything should have been done and settled by the end of December. But I'm just now getting things started and apparently they are saying my case is closed after 6 months. He and his staff have been very unprofessional and of no help through this proce
