Wanted a $5000 retainer fee for preparing a response to my sister and her lawyer requesting information from myself which I did not have to provide in the first place. I was asked to provide a 5 year accounting for a period where I was not the POA. I was also asked to provide information from the sale of my late mother’s 50+ year old furniture, who I sold it to, how much I sold it for and where did the money go. These items were disposed of in 2023, while my mother died in 2025. These items do not form part of the estate. I sold these items as my mother requested and I gave her the cash. I do not see how a $5000 retainer is required from this minimal request. Doubt if many clients would be willing to pay that exorbitant amount.
