We were appointed this lawyer for guardian ad litem in the case of my 16-year-old son. Kevin failed to advocate for my son by not thoroughly looking into all the facts presented to him. I had an extensive timeline with proof of my son not attending school regularly, missing doctor appts that his father refused to bring him to amongst MANY other issues. He was rushed in his work by not giving the case his attention when he was appointed. He allowed only one week to prepare and interview to try and find a solution. This is after the courts reaching out to him and setting a hearing forcing him to complete his hired job. He hid where my son lives by saying he lives somewhere he does not but then put where he actually resides on the recommendation order that his father agreed to in court! My son's name was not even spelled correctly.
Part 2 of my prior review.... He accused me in the recommendation of just letting him know that I had changes the morning before court. This was not true as I brought them to his attention in email proof 5 days prior requesting a call back to discuss my thoughts. When I received the remainder of the bill, I was surprised to see he only spent .1 hours on a "brief call" with my son. Yet there was extensive time spent with the father on numerous calls. When Kevin did not get me to agree to not having 4 hours a week with my son because of what the father wanted, he even hung up on me at one point. There were no legal issues between my son and I for 16 years so this was insane to me, not to mention my son had been living with me 80% of the time leading up to this. When it came to the court date, I received an email at 8 p.m. the night before with his recommendation. This left no time to discuss or try and come to an agreement.
Part 3 of my prior review... After the order was put in it has caused many issues being that it is so vague. I know am dealing with school officials calling not understanding what is ok and what is not. If you want to be sure your child is advocated for and have a fair decision made, I would highly recommend not using Kevin Van Ert!
