Beware: James P Covey spent over $400k dollars of my mom’s estate. Every liquid dollar. My mother had everything in trust and a prenamed guardian. Simple FOUR YEARS, FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS. And frighteningly prejudicial without a single inquiry or interest in the other side’s story through dozens of witnesses. Court appointed finance guardian with my consent. HUGE MISTAKE! VERY CHILDISH AS WELL
If you are looking for an egotistical attorney that will argue until the day is long and never cooperate for a settlement, this is your guy. He is a master at dragging the case along making you think it will settle only to sink his teeth in for another round and retainer from you. Update 12/29/22: James P Covey now violated FL Bar Ethics Rule 4-3.4(g). by trying to negotiate a criminal case against my stepfather for beating my mother by asking for us to drop charges against him for contested items in a guardianship case. I had the displeasure of experiencing James Covey during a guardianship hearing for which he was representing my MIL's abusive husband. Not only did he violate FL Bar Ethics Rule 4-3.4(g), but he consistently dragged out the case, months longer than needed, just to squeeze more money out of his client. Despite his less than average try to defend his abusive client, we won guardianship, and were able to properly care for my MIL.
Covey represented a husband charged with 7counts of assault on his wife who was bedridden and suffering from dementia, video substantiated. All for money.
