Very disappointing. 3 years as GAL, I spoke with him 1x. I walked away knowing I was screwed. Clear he was not neutral, favoring one of few firms to still send him work, coordinated actively with their lawyers. Art forced to admit two things on stand: (i) he did not do anything - no home visit, little time with children and (ii) he lied. Yes, admitted before judge that he lied. He was focused when demanding payment without detailed invoice. I paid and just paid another $1,000 when he filed illegal bank garnishment, he attempted to garnish monies not due to him (no judge’s order). Would schedule appointments for my boys and I find out afterwards. His ‘strategy’ was and is to schedule a forensic psychology review. Options in St. Louis are bad and awful. Had to chase him around to get detailed invoice, spent over 90% of his time coordinating with ex.
Completely unprofessional, unresponsive, and borderline unethical. If he appears on your GAL list disqualify him immediately. If your attorney doesn’t give you the same warning you should get a new representative as the GAL completely controls the family law system and this guy is a nightmare. Nissenbaum does not respond in a timely manner, disappears for weeks on “family emergencies” drags the process out and will result in double the fees of a competent professional. They had Art Nissenbaum in mind when the wrote every lawyer joke and mime.
