Hired Attorney

Working with Susan Stuart on QDROs cost me nearly four times more than it should have, and the experience was very disappointing. Her billing practices and the drawn-out process created unnecessary expenses, including charging full hourly rates for clerical tasks like photocopying and filing, with little transparency. Communication was also a major problem. Bills were mailed and emailed, but her responses were slow, hard to obtain, and always in formal letter format—never simple or direct. She did not accept credit cards, and even small delays in payment—often caused by the need to mail everything—were met with unresponsiveness and repeated calls stating “the accountant is here,” making her very difficult to reach. In the end, my approach turned out to be correct, which could have saved 6–8 months of unnecessary legal fees. Instead, the lack of flexibility, transparency, and responsiveness made the process far more stressful and expensive than it needed to be. I cannot recommend.
