With more than 16 years of legal experience,Joshua (Josh) Zellmer enjoys a diverse and fast-paced practice. Josh is a partner of Myers Billion, LLP and enjoys the cohesive atmosphere and solutions-based focus of the firm. He prides himself on being responsive to his clients’ needs and providing legal advice specific to each client’s unique circumstances.
Josh’s practice focuses primarily on litigation matters in the areas of family law, commercial law, general civil ligation, and criminal defense. Josh has extensive trial and litigation experience in state and federal courts throughout South Dakota. His litigation practice includes actions involving breach of contract, fraud, construction, real estate disputes, and tort actions. His family law practice focuses on complex/high asset divorce actions often involving businesses and/or real estate. Josh also assists clients with transactional matters, including business formation, commercial leases, asset purchases, and real estate purchases. Josh’s practice extends throughout South Dakota having represented clients in every circuit.
Josh was given an “AV” rating from his peers, which means that he was deemed to have very high professional ethics and preeminent legal ability.

Josh began his legal career as a law clerk for the Sixth Judicial Circuit of South Dakota in Pierre, where he grew up. Prior to joining Myers Billion, LLP, Josh worked as a criminal prosecutor in the Rapid City area prosecuting all levels of offenses. These years in the courtroom allowed Josh to hone his trial and litigation skills.
Josh is an active member of his community and volunteers his time with Junior Achievement of South Dakota, Lutheran Social Services, the ELCA of South Dakota, and the Ask-a-Lawyer program. Josh served as the President of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls in 2021 and Vice President in 2020. He is also a 2016 graduate of Leadership South Dakota. Josh also serves on the Family Law Committee and Judicial Liaison Committee for the South Dakota State Bar Association and is a member of the South Dakota Trial Lawyer’s Association. In his free time, Josh enjoys spending time with his wife, their three children, and the couple’s large extended families. Josh is an avid hunter and golfer and generally enjoys being outdoors.
