Stephanie O. Burgess is the owner and managing attorney of the Burgess Law Group, LLC, located in historic downtown Savannah, Georgia. Her practice areas include criminal defense, DUI, family law, divorce, child support, child custody and modification cases. The Burgess Law Group is well-known as “The Small Firm with The Big Fight.”
Boasting a legal career that has spanned 20 years, Stephanie’s accolades include but are not limited to the following: She received a badge for 2025, the National Black Lawyers Top 100. In 2024, she was voted best family law attorney and best law firm in the Coastal Empire by the Savannah Morning News. In 2023, she was honored as the Businesswoman of the Year by the Greater Savannah Black Chamber. In 2022, shepassionately assisted in establishing a women’s section or the formalization of the Women Lawyers Forum of the Ghana Bar Association through her work with National Bar Association’s Women Lawyers Division (NBA-WLD) International Committee as co-chair of the committee. In 2021, she appeared as legal counsel on the popular reality television show, 90-day Fiancée. Ms. Burgess was also showcased in the July 30, 2021edition of Ebony magazine, A Father’s Interest: Attorney Stephanie Burgess Breaks Down Child Support Rights to A Black Dad. In 2020, she was named National Trial Lawyers Top 100 for Criminal Defense, the National Black Lawyers Top 100, and was also included in Savannah Magazine’s Top Lawyers in 2020 and in 2019. American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys named her a Top 10 Attorney in 2019 and in June 2016, she was featured as one of South Magazine’s Finest Lawyers.
Ms. Burgess also regularly holds free community seminars on various topics of law to give back to the community. This includes seminars on child support, divorce as well as wills and trusts. She loves speaking to youth. Prior to hanging her own shingle, Stephanie was a law clerk for City of Atlanta Municipal Court and worked as a staff attorney for Fulton County Superior Court. Prior to law school she worked as a P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement officer for approximately 10 years.
Ms. Burgess attended Clark Atlanta University and is a graduate of Savannah State University and Texas Southern School of Law. She loves spending time with family and friends, playing scrabble and writing poetry.
