Richard Ellis, a Sarasota, Florida native, has dedicated his legal career to serving the community he was born and raised in. A high honors graduate from the University of Florida in 1976, he earned his law degree from Loyola University New Orleans in 1979. Since then, Mr. Ellis has become a respected figure in the legal field, particularly in bankruptcy and family law. Over the past three decades, he has filed over 5,000 Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases and managed hundreds of family law matters. His commitment to public service is evident through his roles on the City of Sarasota Planning Board and Board of Adjustment, and his current position as Special Magistrate for the city, which he has held since 1999. Beyond his professional life, Mr. Ellis enjoys spending time with his family, particularly his seven-year-old granddaughter, and has a keen interest in current events, sports, and reading.
