Richard E. Halperin is a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Pennsylvania (1965) and the University of Pennsylvania Law School (1968). He joined the firm in 2003, having previously been a partner in Kay & Boose LLP. Mr. Halperin’s practice focuses primarily on international and domestic taxation.
His international practice includes the U.S. taxation of operations conducted by foreign entities and individuals in the United States and U.S. taxes upon U.S. entities and individuals resulting from interests that they have in foreign entities and operations. This international practice often emphasizes the coordination of U.S. and foreign tax laws. His domestic tax practice includes corporate acquisitions and dispositions, partnership structures, executive compensation arrangements, exempt organizations, taxation of intellectual property transactions and estate planning.
Mr. Halperin also has extensive experience in transactions relating to intellectual property and the arts and has represented numerous authors, artists and photographers. His writing and lecturing have covered both U.S. and foreign corporate tax issues, as well as subjects related to entertainment, intellectual property and individual tax planning, and he is a contributing author to the Art Law Handbook published by Aspen Law & Business.
Mr. Halperin is also a photographer with several exhibitions and publications to his credit. From time to time he teaches a workshop at the International Center of Photography in New York City.
He is a past President of the North American Nature Photography Association.
