Matt Sandburg, born and raised outside Chicago, earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin–Madison before attending the University of Miami School of Law on a Dean’s Merit Scholarship. After serving more than five years as a Sarasota prosecutor—handling over 1,000 cases, including hundreds of DUI and drug charges—he opened his criminal defense firm in 2011. Since then, Matt has devoted over seventeen years exclusively to criminal law in Sarasota, Venice, and Bradenton. He is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and he has tried more than 50 jury cases, from 15 DUI trials and 20 felony trials to high-profile proceedings such as DUI manslaughter and second-degree murder. Outside the courtroom, Matt volunteers as a judge for Sarasota Teen Court, served as President of the Sarasota chapter of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, led the board of Epilepsy Services of Southwest Florida, and holds the title of Barrister for the John M. Scheb American Inn of Court.
