Amanda King has extensive roots in Sarasota County, and is a graduate of Venice High School. She attended the University of Florida and earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. After her undergraduate work, Ms. King served as an Americorps volunteer, where she taught English and Math to middle schoolers in Lake Tahoe. Ms. King attended law school at Tulane University, where she served on the Board of the Public Interest Law Foundation. While in law school, Ms. King got her first taste of the legal system by assisting citizens who were incarcerated during Hurricane Katrina, and subsequently displaced throughout the country. Ms. King also participated in an international studies program where she studied Negotiation and Mediation Tactics at Humboldt University in Berlin alongside students from all over the world.
Ms. King began her legal career as a Deputy Public Defender in Southern California where she handled thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases, and gained extensive negotiation and litigation experience. She argued countless due process violation and suppression motions, and conducted several jury trials. Her work as a Public Defender enhanced her sense of compassion and empathy for her clients, as well as honed her skills as a zealous and effective advocate.
Since returning to Sarasota, Ms. King has been involved in variety of community and legal organizations, and received the Outstanding Service By a Young Lawyer Award from Legal Aid of Manasota. She serves as the co-chair of the Family Law Section of the Sarasota County Bar Association, and is on the Civics Committee of the Sarasota County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. Ms. King is a foster pet parent with Sarasota Humane Society, and is also active with Sarasota County Gator Club. She is admitted to practice law in Florida and California.
