John E. Borba is a graduate of Hastings College of the Law, University of California, and he was admitted to the California Bar in December 1993. He also holds a B.A. in International Relations from San Francisco State University, earned in 1985. John's educational journey began at Santa Rosa Junior College, where he earned his A.A. Degree in 1982 and met his wife.
Before pursuing a legal career, John worked for five years at Waterhouse Securities, a national discount brokerage firm in San Francisco. During this time, he obtained licenses from the NASD, including Series 7, 8, and 63 licenses. In 1990, John transitioned to law school, discovering his passion for persuasive argument and litigation.
John's courtroom prowess has been honed through diverse cases. While he is comfortable in the courtroom, he also finds value in the mediation process, always approaching it from a position of strength. Beyond his legal career, John Borba resides in Rohnert Park, CA, with his wife, Irene, and their four children, surrounded by a collection of cherished older cars, including a Roadrunner, a Porsche, and several old MG's. His mechanical skills, which he attributes to his father, provide him with a stress-relieving hobby of turning wrenches.
He is a member of the Sonoma County Bar Association Board of Directors (2006-2010), co-editor of Sonoma County Bar Journal, a quarterly publication of the Sonoma County Bar Association, a Temporary Judge at Sonoma County Superior Court, as well as a Discovery Facilitator.and Settlement Panelist.
Community Involvement:
As a longtime resident of Rohnert Park since 1968, John is deeply committed to improving his community. He has served as a dedicated parent volunteer in his children's classrooms, managed a Little League team for several years, and actively fundraised for various charitable causes. John's community involvement extends to roles such as former Past-President of the Rohnert Park-Cotati Active 20-30 club, a past board member of the Education Foundation of Rohnert Park-Cotati, and past founding board member of Christmas in April Rohnert Park (now known as Rebuilding Together).
In addition to his involvement in charitable organizations, John has made a significant impact on local governance. He served as Chairman of the Rohnert Park Planning Commission from 2008 to 2010 and remains a dedicated member. In 1999, he was recruited to the Board of Directors of the Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce and later served as Chairman from 2001 to 2002.
John Borba also pursued a political career, running for the Rohnert Park City Council in 2008 and 2010. Though he narrowly missed the office both times, these campaigns provided valuable opportunities for engaging with the community, addressing its crucial issues, and fostering meaningful dialogue.
