David Patton is an accomplished attorney specializing exclusively in family law. As a certified family law specialist, Mr. Patton has met rigorous standards set by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. To obtain this certification, an attorney must be an active member in good standing of the State Bar of California, pass a comprehensive written examination on California Family Law, demonstrate substantial experience in the field, complete approved legal education requirements, and receive favorable evaluations from judges and fellow attorneys regarding their knowledge, ability, and experience in family law. Born in Oakland, California in 1960, Mr. Patton has deep roots in the state, with his family residing there for five generations. He attended Skyline High School, where he excelled as the captain of the ski racing team. Following high school, he pursued his education at the University of California, Berkeley, where he spent a transformative year in France at the Political Science Institute branch of the Sorbonne in Paris. As president of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, he honed his leadership skills while earning two Bachelor of Arts degrees in 1983. He then went on to attend Santa Clara University School of Law, where he served as an editor of the Santa Clara Law Review. During his time in law school, he gained international experience by working for a law firm in Singapore and attending the University of Singapore Law School. Mr. Patton obtained his law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1987.
Outside of his legal practice, Mr. Patton embraces an active lifestyle and enjoys participating in various sporting activities, including ski racing, scuba diving, golf, and volleyball. He also finds pleasure in supporting his alma mater, attending Cal Bears football games. Travel is another passion of his, having explored numerous destinations both within the United States and abroad.
Mr. Patton is an esteemed member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, actively participating in the family law section, as well as the State Bar of California. He is admitted to practice in all California Courts, including the Federal District Court and U.S. Court of Appeals. Recognizing his expertise, the Santa Clara Superior Court has appointed him as a judge pro-tem (volunteer judge) and arbitrator. Additionally, he has served as a private judge and mediator, further contributing to the legal community and alternative dispute resolution.
