About Benjamin Kneeland Riley

Ben Riley has tried nearly 30 cases to verdict before juries, judges and arbitrators.  He specializes in trade secret, patent, and other intellectual property issues, and also in commercial litigation including trust and estate litigation in which he has recovered approximately $20 million for charitable clients.  He also has an active arbitration practice. Ben co-led a 6-week securities class action trial, alleging $250 million in damages, and obtained a defense verdict.  The Daily Journal cited the case as the largest defense jury trial victory for the year.  He was awarded a California Lawyer of the Year award for his work leading a team of lawyers enforcing a trust for the Japanese-American women and girls of San Francisco against the YWCA.

The Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings process is the gold standard due to its objectivity and comprehensiveness. Lawyers solicited for peer reviews include both those selected by the attorney being reviewed and lawyers independently selected by Martindale-Hubbell. All reviewers are verified as attorneys through Martindale-Hubbell’s extensive attorney database. Only attorneys practicing at least three years and receiving a sufficient number of reviews from non-affiliated attorneys are eligible to receive a Rating.

What are the different Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings?*

• AV Preeminent®: The highest peer rating standard. This rating signifies that a large number of the lawyer’s peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal knowledge, communication skills and ethical standards.
