W. Drew Mallender practices in the areas of real estate and finance. Mr. Mallender represents lenders, developers, and owners in commercial real estate transactions, development, and finance. He advises clients on entity formation and governance, structuring partnerships and joint ventures, negotiating and structuring complex transactions and contracts, and real estate development planning, entitlements and compliance matters.
Mr. Mallender’s 30 years of experience offers a broad background in commercial real estate, transactional law. For over a decade, Mr. Mallender was the owner and managing partner of a San Antonio based commercial real estate development company, which developed, owned and managed medical office and general office projects, memory care facilities, quick service restaurants, and mixed-use projects throughout the San Antonio Metropolitan Area. Mr. Mallender previously practiced real estate transactional law with the McLean, Virginia law firm of Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald, LLP, advising clients on the structuring, negotiating and financing of complex multi-property, multi-state ventures for the acquisition and development of commercial real estate throughout the United States and Canada. As an attorney advisor to the U.S. Small Business Administration, he provided guidance and support to program managers and loan officers regarding the interpretation of, and compliance with, the SBA’s disaster loan program’s laws, policies and procedures. Mr. Mallender’s experience also extends to the oil and gas industry, government contract claims and compliance, and construction litigation.
