Marissa Giovenco is a San Antonio criminal defense lawyer and Senior Trial Attorney at Michael & Associates Criminal Defense Attorneys with more than 14 years of criminal law experience. She represents individuals facing misdemeanor and felony criminal charges and brings extensive experience from both sides of the criminal justice system. Before entering private practice, she spent more than a decade as a prosecutor, including nearly nine years as an Assistant Criminal District Attorney in Bexar County.
During her more than decade-long prosecutorial career, Ms. Giovenco served nearly nine years as an Assistant Criminal District Attorney in Bexar County and more than two years as an Assistant County Attorney in Potter County. In these roles, she handled a wide range of misdemeanor and felony offenses and served as a lead trial attorney responsible for managing complex criminal cases through every stage of the legal process. Her experience evaluating evidence, preparing witnesses, conducting jury trials, and presenting cases in court provides valuable insight into how prosecutors develop strategies and pursue convictions.
In addition to her work as a prosecutor, Ms. Giovenco served in the Bexar County Magistrate's Office and worked with the U.S. Small Business Administration on federal disaster relief matters. These roles broadened her understanding of government operations, legal procedures, and the decision-making processes that often affect individuals navigating complex legal systems.
After leaving the Bexar County District Attorney's Office in 2023, Ms. Giovenco entered private practice, representing individuals facing criminal charges throughout South Texas before joining Michael & Associates Criminal Defense Attorneys.
At Michael & Associates, Ms. Giovenco focuses exclusively on criminal defense, where she handles cases involving DWI offenses, assault and family violence allegations, drug crimes, theft offenses, weapons charges, probation violations, and serious felony cases. She leverages her prosecutorial background to identify weaknesses in the State's case, challenge evidence, and develop strategic defenses tailored to each client's circumstances. She approaches every case with a trial-ready mindset, working to secure dismissals, charge reductions, favorable plea agreements, or acquittals whenever possible.
Having spent much of her legal career in Bexar County courtrooms, Ms. Giovenco possesses firsthand knowledge of local prosecutors, courtroom procedures, and the practical realities of criminal litigation in San Antonio.
In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Giovenco was a candidate for the 226th Criminal District Court in Bexar County, reflecting her longstanding involvement in the Bexar County legal community and commitment to public service.
