Jim Morton, one of the founders of Morton & Gettys has been practicing criminal law in South Carolina for over 30 years. His work as a public defender, prosecutor and defense attorney has given him a variety of experiences and a vast legal perspective.Jim has defended clients in cases that have drawn national attention, and he has handled death penalty cases. He has handled a wide range of unique and complicated trials, including death penalty cases, cold cases, DNA evidence, false confessions and hypnosis. Many of his cases have drawn national attention. His practice also includes misdemeanor and felony drunk driving charges and other crimes. Jim has an extensive personal injury practice as well, including wrongful death suits and workers’ compensation cases.He has served the community as well through positions on statewide boards of directors and advisory councils. He is a University of South Carolina School of Law mentor. He has served on the York County Free Medical Clinic Advisory Board, American Civil Liberties Union of SC Board, York County Public Defenders Board and in other leadership positions for community organizations.
