As an older guy, it takes some motivation to get back in shape. My bride and I decided to purchase ebikes to make it a little easier on the knees, military was not kind to them. I figured riding to work would be a good way to get some exercise during my commute. Did this without issue for almost a year. In April of 2024 I was riding home, in a clearly marked bike lane. Suddenly a driver in a Honda kicked open their door, I plowed into the door, and me and the 70 lb ebike flew over the door, landing hard on the asphalt on my back, shoulder and head, breaking my helmet. Took a bit to be able to try and stand. The gal opening the door was very apologetic, and truely was sorry. I went to the ER to be sure there was no permanent damage, but man was I sore for a couple weeks. Their insurance reached out and covered the cost of the bike right away. But when discussing the medical bills and compensation I realized I would be owing money. They were definately not negotiating in good faith.
