Stephen R. Harris has over 40 years of experience practicing law, focusing primarily on Chapter 11 business bankruptcy in Northern Nevada. His passion for helping debtors resolve financial challenges began during his teenage years in Las Vegas, where he worked for James E. Rogers, Esq., as a law firm assistant. Under Rogers’ mentorship, Steve pursued higher education, earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California and his law degree from the University of San Diego in 1974. He became a licensed Nevada attorney later that year.
After working briefly for Rogers’ law firm, Steve relocated to Reno and joined the Federal Public Defender’s office, where he honed his courtroom skills, achieving seven acquittals in eight jury trials. In 1976, he transitioned to private practice and began focusing on bankruptcy law, inspired by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Bert Goldwater. Over his career, Steve has handled more than 1,000 Chapter 11 cases, 5,000 Chapter 7 cases, and 400 Chapter 13 cases, primarily representing debtors.
Steve is passionate about helping individuals and businesses navigate financial difficulties, often advising clients on alternatives to bankruptcy or the strategic timing of filing. His dedication and expertise have made him a trusted leader in bankruptcy law.
