About Matthew Stauff

We focus on our clients’ needs, identify their goals, and help them work toward achieving those goals.

Originally from New England, Matthew Stauff has lived and worked in North Carolina since 2006. He started his career in private practice before launching a seven-year tenure at Legal Aid of North Carolina, where he refined his analytical skills in child custody cases, housing issues, and unemployment benefits disputes. In order to focus his practice more fully on employment and family law cases, Matthew joined his colleague Jordan Gross to form Stauff & Gross in 2014.

Matthew represents clients in divorce proceedings, child custody hearings, and wrongful termination cases. He also accepts appointments as a Certified Parenting Coordinator in high-conflict custody cases. While he is an experienced litigator and is willing to advocate for his clients in court, Matthew believes that court should not always be the first option: Working out matters amicably through negotiation and settlement generally leads to a more efficient, cost-effective outcome.

Working with Jordan at Stauff & Gross has allowed Matthew to not only draw upon his extensive background in family law and employment cases, but also get to know his clients as people. “Because we’re a small firm, we’re able to focus on the client,” he says. “I’m fortunate to be able to help our clients work out their legal issues.”

Matthew lives in North Raleigh with his wife, son, two dogs, two cats, and rabbit. Outside of the firm, he can be found working in his yard, reading, fishing, and enjoying time with his family and friends both within and outside of the legal field.

Hired Attorney

Throughout the time that I worked with Matthew Stauff, I felt confident that he was the best attorney to handle my case. And I knew I was in good hands, which made the whole process less stressful than it could have been. Matthew demonstrated a clear understanding of the law, and his knowledge and competence relative to the opposing consul was very impressive and reassuring. I would certainly recommend his services to my family and friends and anyone seeking legal consul.

Matthew turned around an ante-nuptial agreement for me with very little lead time. He worked quickly with my fiancee's attorney and even personally visited us to notarize our signatures. He was a pleasure to work with.

My case was unusual and tough, but Matthew and his team really did their homework, fought the good fight, and always had my back. I can't recommend them highly enough.
