Becker antagonized the appointing judge by seeking a delay to go work at her parents’ Tucson nut farm. This initial battle, which “we” lost although I was no part of it, reflected on me throughout the case. Embittered, she often said the judge was unfairly against her. Becker missed appointments, changed defense strategies w/out explanation, arrived unprepared failing to do research and made no investigatory use of our paid-for investigator. Becker came to trial with a half-baked plan to use the prosecution’s own expert witness against them. She executed this foolish strategy ineptly. Becker tried a “cross-examination” defense and, when I warned her she needed to do more than just reinforce the DA’s points, said I was "too negative.” Her ineffective closing argument amounted to a suggestion that the jury acquit since her client “had a bad day.” As soon as she got me convicted, she told me she had already submitted the required Notice of Appeal, but court mittimus show she never did.
