Raised in Joliet, Illinois, he graduated from Joliet West High School in 1988, earned a BA in physics from Carleton College in 1992 and an MS in physics from the University of Iowa in 1996, then completed his JD at Northwestern University School of Law in 2005. Admitted to the Illinois bar in 2008, he has maintained a solo practice since. His technical career began at Lucent Technologies in 1997 as a technical team lead and continued in product management at Apropos Technology in 1999. While transitioning to law he also served as general manager for multiple startups, applying analytic skills to strategic decision‑making, contract structuring, and risk assessment. Married to his Carleton sweetheart, he and his wife have two young sons, and he remains an avid fan of the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks.

The Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings process is the gold standard due to its objectivity and comprehensiveness. Lawyers solicited for peer reviews include both those selected by the attorney being reviewed and lawyers independently selected by Martindale-Hubbell. All reviewers are verified as attorneys through Martindale-Hubbell’s extensive attorney database. Only attorneys practicing at least three years and receiving a sufficient number of reviews from non-affiliated attorneys are eligible to receive a Rating.

What are the different Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings?*

• AV Preeminent®: The highest peer rating standard. This rating signifies that a large number of the lawyer’s peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal knowledge, communication skills and ethical standards.
