About Darth M. Newman

Darth is a skilled trial attorney with more than a decade of litigation experience in complex commercial and plaintiff’s side whistleblower cases. He has tried shareholder disputes, fraud, insider dealing, and fiduciary duty matters worth millions of dollars. He has also represented whistleblowers from across the country helping to shed light on all manner of fraud against the government from dangerous healthcare systems, devices, and doctors to government contracting and loan fraud.

Darth's trial experience includes a federal jury trial, a Delaware Chancery Court trial, and a range of other state court trials and arbitrations. He has briefed and argued motions and appeals in various federal and state courts and helped secure an en banc Federal Circuit decision striking down a portion of the Lanham Act as unconstitutional; that decision was later unanimously affirmed by the United States Supreme Court. Examples of written decisions he has obtained appear below. Darth is also a skilled negotiator with a lengthy record of resolving otherwise intractable disputes short of trial.

An active member of the Allegheny County Bar Association, Darth is the current Chair of the Professional Ethics Committee and an elected member of the Council of the Federal Court Section. Nationally, he is a member of Taxpayers Against Fraud, a public interest non-profit organization dedicated to fighting fraud against the government. Darth was a soccer referee long before he was a lawyer. He has officiated around the country, is still a referee and referee coach/mentor, and now serves as the Western Pennsylvania State Youth Referee Administrator and an ex-officio member of the Pennsylvania West Soccer Association Youth Board.

Before opening his own firm, Darth worked at national and regional firms and helped start two litigation boutiques.

Hired Attorney Darth M. Newman

I hired Darth to help me with the purchase agreement for the purchase of the family business from my parents. As with most family businesses, there can be a lot of emotion involved. Darth was great at seeing things clearly and dispassionately while being able to explain complicated issues to me.

Consulted Attorney Darth M. Newman

Very trustworthy person of integrity. Attorney Newman consulted on my whistleblower case, which had failed through another law firm, and somehow he was able to break down barriers where many other attorneys tried but could not. I'm incredibly impressed at what he was able to accomplish. Due to the nature of the case, unfortunately I cannot go into details. In the end I received a settlement offer on this very difficult case, which had previously seemed all but lost.

I reached out to Darth for assistance with review of a contract. He was quick, yet thorough in his review. He walked me through his comments and made sure I understood his concerns with some of the language. I felt as though he was reviewing it as if it was his contract. Darth is an exceptional lawyer and I would strongly recommend the Law Offices of Darth M. Newman.

Hired Attorney Darth M. Newman

Darth was hired to review an employment contract and provide a recommendation on any areas of risk. He took the time to make detailed notes and reviewed the notes, contract, and his recommendations with me at length. Darth was communicative and responsive throughout the process. He was invested in the best outcome for me and yet was very supportive of any decisions I made. He is very knowledgeable, listens, and cares for his clients.

Mr. Newman has excellent communication skills and genuinely seemed to care about my concerns. He gave clear and honest advice on an IP rights negotiation related to a prior employer that allowed me to maintain rights to work that was very important to me. Next, Mr. Newman provided advice and feedback that carved out and protected future side projects and other prior art. Finally, he assisted in another negotiation with a new employer that not only got me everything I asked for, but more! Throughout the process, Mr. Newman took the time to make sure I understood what my options were and spoke honestly about what he thought the best course of action was, and why. I cannot recommend him highly enough!

Hired Attorney Darth M. Newman

Working with Mr. Newman was a very positive experience. There are few matters where I have needed legal assistance but I have looked for legal professionals who are both personable and knowledgeable. Mr. Newman was exemplary in both respects. He was very responsive to emails and accommodating in scheduling in-person meetings. I had a contract dispute. He clearly explained the process and patiently answered my questions. With his strong negotiating skills we were able to successfully resolve the issue in a timely fashion, without needing to file a law suit. Compared to other lawyers I have hired, I felt that I got value from hiring him. He was very transparent about billing. I would absolutely hire Mr. Newman again.

Darth Newman was extremely helpful when I had concerns about an out clause in my contract. He carefully navigated the terms with me and made sure that my transition to a new position was done both professionally and in a way that didn't trigger my non compete. Highly recommend.
