Krystal M. Ahart is a partner at Kahn & Ahart, PLLC, dba Bankruptcy Legal Center™. She focuses her practice on assisting individuals and businesses through the bankruptcy process in Chapters 7, 11, and 13. She first began working with her law Partner in 2002, when she was hired as a receptionist for the law firm of James F. Kahn, P.C., moving her way up from file clerk/receptionist, to secretary, to paralegal, and finally to lawyer, all while caring for a sibling, working during the day, and taking her undergrad and law classes at night. Krystal is an active member of the legal community and devotes a substantial amount of time to serving the underserved. She works closely with the Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP) on the Friend of the Court Reaffirmation program at the bankruptcy court, where she teaches law students various skills including effective client communication, interviewing, courtroom decorum, and presentation; the law students then represent pro se debtors at their reaffirmation hearing (as a “Friend of the Court”). Krystal is a past-president of the Young Lawyers Division Board of the Maricopa County Bar Association and currently serves as Chair of VLP’s Advisory Committee and as Co-Executive Director of Arizona Consumer Bankruptcy Counsel (“ACBC”). In 2014, she was the first recipient of the Honorable Sarah Sharer Curley Self-Help Center Volunteer Award, in recognition of her commitment to the success of the Bankruptcy Court’s Self-Help Center. Krystal was the fourth female to become Certified as a Bankruptcy Specialist by the State Bar of Arizona. She was selected to be a member of the 2020 Class of American Bankruptcy Institute's 40 Under 40 Program and to Super Lawyers’ 2021 Southwest Rising Stars® list, an honor reserved for only 2.5% of attorneys in the Southwest! In her free time, she enjoys snowboarding, camping, and hiking - with her awesomely well-behaved dog (Tyson) by her side.
