Mr. Christopher Houk

Army Combat Veteran writing this review. I received from all staff members, especially Chris, a detailed and determined professionalism which cared for me with a thorough genuine approach. Very Respectful; couldn’t have asked for a better experience from Houk Law Firm during this stint of my life.

I met with Chris for a consult. I was not sure if what I was experiencing at work required legal counsel. He attentively listened to my concerns, provided expert advice and recommendations and displayed a genuine level of care about me and my situation. I definitely did not feel like a case number; I was an individual who mattered. He explained that my concerns were valid. I left the consult with an improved level of awareness about my rights, confidence in my ability to advocate for myself, and an understanding of my future options. Knowing that I could work with Chris in the future, if necessary, meant the world to me. He is outstanding.

I was in a situation with an employer that had threatened me with a baseless lawsuit and I was really scared. I had also come out as transgender in this workplace and was facing discrimination from that. Living in AZ I was concerned about being transgender and how that would impact the representation I would receive but Chris and his team were nothing but kind, compassionate, and helpful. The team accompanied me to a meeting with my employer that they had at their lawyers office and even got me a settlement. Despite the pain caused by my employer Houk Law gave me a best case scenario that I didn’t even know was possible.

I have had the pleasure of serving as a Mediator for Mr. Houk. He is a skilled litigator, negotiator and cares deeply for his clients. Five stars in my book.

I contacted Chris and his team who quickly reviewed my questions on employment issues that closed on a positive response. I could not be more happy. Buyer Beware - this law office is only interested in padding their pocket instead of fighting for you. Lacks negotiation skills. Will not attempt to get severance by calling after demand sent. Demand letters are arrogant and do not get responses. They do not bother to work for you because they make more charging you. They will charge for editing after they make mistakes as if they are intentional in doing this just to charge you more. Will charge you even when you state you do not want a meeting for the email or call. Greedy. Would not attend unemployment hearing when asked for help stating they cannot get paid to attend. Greedy. Arrogant. Lacks negotiation and legal skills to get severance despite the copious documentation and facts. Another lawyer for less won the case for me. Recommend buyer goes elsewhere- Buyer beware of Houk Law.

He charged $325 for a telephonic consultation that lasted maybe 20 minutes. He required a $3250 retainer to write a letter to my employer about a discrimination issue. He was given a draft of what the letter was supposed to say, but instead wrote something completely different with numerous grammatical errors, referred to me by a different name, and described me as a “black African American” (I am not). He refused to refund any of my money and we had an arbitration hearing. I prevailed at the hearing and he was ordered to refund most of the retainer.
