There would have to be a reason: Medicare lien perhaps? Some medical lien being negotiated perhaps? Some funds being held by a provider to pay medicare or Medicaid lien? Tell your lawyer to explain to you. you have a right to know and understand. He can tell you. he cant make you understand tho.

You will have to take a look at your retainer agreement. If this was a flat-rate arrangement, then the money is spent and that's that (unless there is something in that retainer that I don't know about). If it was an hourly fee and there was a rate to be applied against the retainer, then you are entitled to an accounting, which may involve a partial refund.
