If I fall in a state building, who is liable?

Personal Injury lawyer at Gregory M. Janks, P.C.
In Michigan the governmental agency that owns/controls a government building that is open for use by the public has a duty to maintain the building so it has no defects and is not dangerous. However, I'm not sure that placing chairs in a small room constitutes a defect or hazard, but that would be up to either the trial judge and/or the jury. However, as to these claims there are Notice provisions (and they are pretty short) set out in the Michigan Governmental Liability Statute, so you would either need to review same yourself or in consultation with an attorney to make sure you give timely notice, which is required if you are to present a claim.

My answer is yes. I have handled such cases successfully. This could be worth hundreds of dollars. I must admit, though, the phrase "hot dogs from a gas station" does sound a little icky.

As soon as you have problems: Fill out the paperwork, apply for the benefits. If they make up your loss of income and pay your medical bills, then you are getting what you are entitled to and you don't need a lawyer. If they give you a hard time, or delay, or you don't understand the paperwork, or call for a hearing or cut off your benefits, call a lawyer then.
