How long can I wait to file a case against a company?

Answered by attorney Diana L. Anderson
Personal Injury lawyer at Diana L. Anderson
It depends on the type of case.  There is something that is called the "Statute of Limitations" and it dictates the limit of time for filing a lawsuit.  It is different for different types of lawsuits, and also different if the plaintiff is a minor.   The Statute is not one single Statutes, but is a variety of different statutes. Professional malpractice  within 2 years from the date of the act or omission giving rise to the complaint, or 2 years from the date the injury was or reasonably should have been discovered.Personal Injury: 2 years. Fraud: 6 years.Libel / Slander / Defamation: 1 year.Injury to Personal Property: 6 years.Product Liability:within 2 years from the date of the act or omission giving rise to the complaint, or 2 years from the date the injury was or reasonably should have been discovered.Contracts: 6 years.

What rights does my husband have if he was left a quadriplegic after a construction accident 21 years ago?

Answered by attorney Donald Keith Broad (Unclaimed Profile)
Personal Injury lawyer at Broad Law Firm, LLC
It's a serious enough case that you should consult a personal injury attorney in your area. However, if the accident happened 21 years ago, the statute of limitations has likely expired long ago.

Can he still get the police to charge me after hours of leaving the accident scene?

David F. Stoddard
Answered by attorney David F. Stoddard (Unclaimed Profile)
Personal Injury lawyer at The David F. Stoddard Law Firm
He can, but I doubt the police will charge you if you gave him your name and address. In fact, I would have to look up the leaving the scene statute, but I think it applies only if you do not leave your contact info with the other driver.
