About Ms. Haley R. Maple

Haley concentrates her practice on professional liability, construction defect and insurance coverage claims, focusing primarily on defending claims brought against architects, engineers, surveyors, contractors and subcontractors. Haley's experience ranges in all stages of litigation, including presuit investigation, discovery, alternative dispute resolution, dispositive motion practice, trial, appellate brief drafting and appellate argument.

Before joining Marshall Dennehey, Haley was a shareholder with a Tampa, Florida law firm where she practiced for over eight years. Haley represented a wide array of clients, including design professionals, real estate agents and brokers, self-insured corporations as well as insurers. Much of her practice focused on a broad range of commercial litigation disputes, construction industry claims, professional liability matters, insurance defense, coverage actions, as well as appellate advocacy.

In 2003, Haley earned her juris doctor, cum laude, from the American University, Washington College of Law. During her time in law school, Haley worked as an extern in the Department of Justice, Office of the Solicitor General, under Solicitor General, Theodore Olson. There, she assisted attorneys in editing and finalizing briefs, submitted on behalf of the United States of America, to the United States Supreme Court and various Federal Courts of Appeals. Also while in law school, Haley was selected two years in a row, as a Dean's Fellow for the legal research and writing program. Here, she assisted professors in teaching legal research and writing skills to first year law students.

Haley is actively committed to non-profit endeavors, both in the legal and local communities. Haley has served in a leadership role with the ABA Section of Litigation, an organization of approximately 60,000 members, since 2009. Additionally, Haley served as Editor-in-Chief of The Woman Advocate, a quarterly newsletter published by the ABA Section of Litigation. During her tenure, the newsletter won the award for Best Newsletter for the 2008-2009 bar year and the Honorable Mention award for the 2010-2011 bar year.

Haley serves on the board of directors for the Alpha House of Tampa (an organization which empowers pregnant and parenting women in crisis) and has sat on the governance committee. Since 2008, Haley has been a member of Network of Executive Women (NEW). Haley joined the NEW board in 2010, serving as President in 2012-2013. Haley is also a member of the Hillsborough County Bar Association and the Women's Construction Litigation Alliance. Previously, Haley was a member of the Hillsborough Association of Women Lawyers and volunteered for Bay Area Legal Services.

Significant Representative Matters

•Argued in the Second District Court of Appeals for Florida, resulting in the court's affirmance of dismissal of claims, with prejudice, against clients, an engineering firm and individual engineer.

•Successfully drafted and argued summary judgment motion in professional malpractice action brought against real estate agent and broker client. Obtained summary judgment on the claims brought against clients in Florida State court, including misrepresentation claims.

•Successfully argued and obtained summary judgment in favor of real estate client who was sued for various claims, including negligence, misrepresentation and rescission.
