Amal Laassel was born and raised in Marrakesh, Morocco, where she lived until her mid-teens. At sixteen, she came to the United States through an international student exchange program and settled in El Paso, Texas, with an American host family, graduating from high school there. Amal then moved to Orlando to attend the University of Central Florida, earning her B.A. in Political Science in 2004. While at UCF, she interned with the Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association, an experience that opened her eyes to the barrier that lack of funds poses in accessing legal services and inspired her to pursue law school. Amal went on to obtain her J.D. from the University of Florida College of Law in 2007. She began her legal career at a mid-size personal injury firm in Ocala, working alongside one of Florida’s first Board-Certified Civil Trial lawyers, which honed her courtroom skills. In 2009, Amal returned to Orlando to defend Fortune 500 clients at a leading insurance defense firm, becoming the youngest attorney ever made partner in 2013. In 2014, driven by a desire to help individuals rather than corporations, she shifted her practice to represent plaintiffs.
