About Elizabeth Borchers

Elizabeth is well known in the Omaha legal community. With more than 40 years of practicing law, she has “been there, done that” more than a few times. As a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, attorney Borchers has built a career as a family law attorney and mediator. Elizabeth provides her family law clients with an array of family law related services, including mediation, collaborative divorce, divorce, paternity actions, modifications and appeal. In addition to her family law focus, Elizabeth helps an array of clients with their estate planning needs including but not limited to wills, trusts, and powers of attorney,

Elizabeth is driven by her clients. With a focus on their goals, she brings her experience to their individual situation and case details in order to guide the client to make an informed decision. She is a people person and likes to help people solve problems. Paramount for her is the satisfaction of her clients. “Appreciation comes first.” She also enjoys “the collegiality of my practice and interaction with court personnel and the judges.”

With decades of years in practice as a family law attorney, Elizabeth Borchers has earned respect as both a lawyer and a mediator. She is trusted by the Omaha legal community as a professional who can help people solve their own problems in a neutral setting. Elizabeth draws strength and inspiration from all around her, from her closest family and friends to the long-ago college professors who encouraged her.

With an undergraduate in journalism, having written articles for collegiate newspapers and other publications, Elizabeth made the decision to pursue a career in law during her senior year of college. A mother of a two-year-old at the time, she recognized the non-family-friendly travel requirements of a journalist. An avid student and performance driven individual and with women entering the profession in larger numbers, her applications to law schools that year were readily accepted. Elizabeth is a fourth generation Omahan. She is the great granddaughter of Arthur Smith Churchill, a civil war veteran and tenth Attorney General of Nebraska. Elizabeth is also the great granddaughter of Ernest Stuht, an Omaha pioneer who began in Omaha as a carpenter and wheelwright after emigrating from Germany. He eventually started a grading business and built the Union Hotel on the site of the main post office. Ernest was a member of the Omaha City Council in 1896. Her father, William C. Stuht and grandfather, Clinton Briggs Stuht both worked in Omaha real estate. Elizabeth’s son Max Honaker also works in commercial real estate development. Elizabeth enjoys bicycling, swimming, reading and wine tasting.

Elizabeth is active in cycling and hiking. She travels to the national parks to explore new paths, and revisits some of her favorite bike trails in the state of Minnesota. In addition to the detailed legal work she involves herself with, she stays mentally active as an avid reader and book club participant. She attributes her good health to her active lifestyle, and is thankful to her cocker spaniel which “keeps me moving even in bad weather.”
