Mr. Custen is a very kind and entertaining man, and is very good at managing tense situations, but I would not recommend him as a mediator. A good mediator encourages 2 parties to come together in a spirit of compromise and sincerely discuss viable solutions. My mediation session consisted of the other party stating that they refuse to compromise, and Mr. Custen quickly conceding and seeming to "take sides" (as a mediator should not do) rather than attempting to mediate a compromise.
Hiring Mr. Custen was the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life. He increased the ex's alimony another $300 at time of divorce which didn't leave me enough to make house payments and living expenses. It forced me to leave the country for another job. The Ex got a new house paid in full, a rental paid in full plus two S.S. checks (I've been told $1,600 per Son) for our two mentally handicapped Sons. Mr. Custen kept the S.S. checks secret from me. He said the Ex could never go to work or I would be forced to pay $2,000 per Son for institutional costs.. I later found that the checks would pay 100% of the Son's costs. For our 1&1/2 year of seperation, I worked full time plus had the Sons with me as much as the ex had them but for my decree, Mr. Custen said I had to get permission from the Ex to see them, so she could keep the hidden S.S. checks going to her. My decree said when I retire to pay her portione of my retirement plus keep paying alimony, leaving me nothing.
Mediation was a joke. Mr. Custen was unprofessional and chose sides from the beginning. He was belligerent and tried to intimidate me into agreeing with the opposing party. I would not recommend him for any type of service. This is rhe 2nd time I've done mediation and the first time was successful and stress free. This time with Mr. Custen was a total waste of money.
Instead of being a ‘mediator’, he spent more time telling me about how he popped an “extra Xanax”, on his flight home from Australia. On top of that, he was bad mouthing me to my ex, & her family....and it was MY ATTORNEY that suggested him. Absolutely terrible mediator, and is 110% in the wrong profession. Marty, you win the ‘Turd of the year’ award🥇 . Please, if you need a mediator, on either side....LOOK ELSEWHERE.
Marty wants to nickel and dime you. He wants to charge you a transaction fee after you spend hundreds of dollars with him. He wants to charge you this fee and the information he is charging for is given to lawyers for free. There is one review that nailed his attitude right on the head. He is willing to talk and have a good time with you but when it gets tough he takes the easy way out and will side with one person. NOT PROFESSIONAL in my opinion. As you can guess I would not recommend him.
