Paid for a consultation to inquire about modifying a settlement six years after the original as there had been a substantial change to my ex’s income. The attorney was argumentative with me, tersely asking what I would plan to tell the judge. I’m not an attorney, so that was what I needed to understand from her, nevertheless I tried to explain w/ my limited knowledge that modifications are supposed to be allowed when there is a substantial change in circumstances. She said it didn’t matter because my income went up too and so I had no chance of modifying—sent me away hopeless and in tears—felt belittling and unnecessarily adversarial too. I couldn’t really make sense of her backwards logic, and I was left feeling I was wrong. Later, a better attorney actually listened, gave thoughtful advice, and got the modification executed in court with ease. This firm seems myopic, advice on the matter inaccurate, and delivered in an abrasive and rude manner.
