About Peter Thomas Lane

Peter became Of Counsel to the firm in 2017. He focuses his practice on civil and criminal litigation, including commercial litigation, landlord-tenant law, and civil rights. Peter is committed to helping people defend against criminal charges, obtain compensation for violations of their civil rights, protect their assets and enforce their contractual rights in the marketplace. He regularly litigates housing court matters on behalf of landlords and large property managers and counsels local business owners on their legal needs. In criminal matters, he has successfully guided clients through the court process to receive the justice they deserve, including acquittal of charges through trial. Peter is also an experienced Federal Court practitioner where he represents individual and corporate clients in various litigation matters.

A native to the Pioneer Valley, Peter grew up in Westfield, where he graduated from Westfield High School. After attending college at Fordham University in Bronx, NY, he worked at the Legal Aid Society of New York City for 13 years as a pre-sentencing mitigation specialist and investigator in the Criminal Defense Practice. In 2008, he earned his degree from Brooklyn Law School and was admitted to practice law in both Massachusetts and New York in 2009. He began practicing in the areas of consumer protection, civil rights, and bankruptcy in New York City, but returned to Western Mass in 2014, establishing a solo practice in Northampton where he represented individuals, small businesses, and creative entrepreneurs in obtaining justice and financial stability through litigation, negotiation, and effective counsel.

Peter has been a guest lecturer at Brooklyn Law School and Springfield College and has presented continuing legal education seminars on consumer protection and finance company liability for auto dealership fraud.
