Fred skillfully defused the acrimony, incrementally bringing his adversary around, even going so far as to arrange an informal meeting to establish comity and calm the waters. Much of what the best lawyers do is speak wisely and compellingly to people on the other side who insist there's no room to settle, until suddenly they find that there is. Fred's impressive competence and quiet persistence was exactly right for accomplishing what needed doing. He was a pleasure to work with and I would happily do so again.
