About Tony Jay-Lun Cheng

Tony Cheng, a seasoned attorney who possesses both substantial litigation experience and transactional expertise, joined Cummins & White in 2023.

Mr. Cheng handles all aspects of litigation from pre-litigation negotiations to appellate practice. Mr. Cheng has represented the interests of individuals, small businesses, insurance companies, multinational banks, and large corporations in a variety of matters including business litigation, real estate disputes, corporate/shareholder disputes, mortgage litigation, foreclosure matters, insurance defense, landlord/tenant disputes, business negligence, personal injury, employment law, wage/hour claims, discrimination/civil rights litigation, respondeat superior claims, alter ego allegations, construction defect, and intellectual property disputes.

With respect to transactional matters, Mr. Cheng has experience with forming corporate entities, drawing up articles of incorporation, bylaws, and other incorporation documents, and drafting internal business/corporate documents including employee handbooks, company procedures, business terms and conditions, and sales/service forms. Additionally, Mr. Cheng is experienced in negotiating and drafting of business contracts as well as advising clients on corporate-related issues and concerns.

Mr. Cheng received his J.D. from the University of Southern California and has B.A.s in in Molecular Cell Biology and History from the University of California, Berkeley. Before joining Cummins & White, Mr. Cheng was an attorney at various litigation firms throughout Southern California. Mr. Cheng has also served as general counsel and legal advisor for a Chinese investment group seeking to develop Hollywood-style theme parks in China. At that position, Mr. Cheng was intimately involved in the successful negotiation of a theme park exploration and development contract between his client and a major Hollywood studio.

Mr. Cheng is admitted to the State Bar of California, all United States District Courts in California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

In addition to his legal skills and experience, Mr. Cheng is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese and literate in Chinese. As a first-generation Chinese American, Mr. Cheng remains connected to Chinese community both here and abroad and has intimate knowledge of Chinese culture and society.
