My husband, Jerry, was in a truly terrifying and unjust legal situation. He was facing 30 days in jail and a $500 fine for a misdemeanor he did not commit. We were both new to the legal system and completely overwhelmed by the process, especially after the judge seemed to be set on a specific outcome, regardless of the facts. The most difficult part was finding an attorney. We spoke with many lawyers who either couldn't take the case or didn't want to because they said it wasn't worth their time or was too expensive.
