About Jack Tuckner, Esq.

Jack Tuckner is a Women’s Rights in the Workplace attorney and a founding partner of Tuckner, Sipser, perhaps the only law firm in the nation concentrating its practice on workplace gender rights. His practice is focused on helping working women combat sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination, and other discrimination and illegal treatment faced by women, including illegal pay disparity, gender discrimination, maternity leave matters, unlawful retaliation, and wrongful termination.

Jack has long fought for women’s rights and against the unequal and wrongful treatment of women in the workplace. In doing so, Jack has gained a reputation for feminist activism and the pursuit of gender justice in pay for all women. He has been a pioneer in fighting against the many forms of pregnancy discrimination, including the illegal actions taken by employers to try to force women to quit their jobs, and the denial of workplace promotion and other benefits.

Recognition

Jack has served as an advocate and commentator on women’s discrimination issues across the media spectrum, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Daily News, NBC’s Nightly News with Brian Williams, Good Morning America, Anderson Cooper, The Joy Behar Show, National Public Radio, CNN, Inside Edition, numerous local television and radio stations, and at civic and grass roots community meetings and seminars throughout the NY tri-state area. Jack Tuckner is admitted to practice before all New York state courts. Additionally, he has been admitted pro hac vice in other state courts.

As an employee rights attorney, Jack Tuckner is on the Faculty of LawLine, teaching a popular course “Pregnancy Discrimination: The Evergreen Employment Law Cause of Action”, which details from the employee’s perspective the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and other related leave of absence laws that affect employers and pregnant working women.

Why My Practice is Focused on Women’s Rights in the Workplace

Women have long been the subject of unfair discrimination in many forms: lower pay, fewer opportunities for advancement, and a double standard in terms of the work that they must do to get ahead. In the past, many employers felt that it was OK not to hire or promote women, as the better jobs were reserved for men who “had families to provide for.”

In addition to this unequal treatment, many women were also subjected to hostile work environments in which crude jokes and sexist behaviors were commonplace. Some women even faced blatant sexual harassment, including unwelcome physical content and qui-pro-quo employment terms.

These practices are wrong and must be stopped.

I’m proud to be a feminist lawyer, and have built by career on advancing women’s rights in the workplace by seeking to hold all employers fully accountable for wrongful and illegal conduct against women.

Even today, there are managers who treat women wrongly with a twisted double standard – they believe that it’s ok to use their corporate power to treat women however they wish, while at the same time would not stand it if their wife or daughter was treated similarly.

My goal is to eradicate gender and all other forms of discrimination and harassment from the workplace.

As a lawyer, I have the unique opportunity to hold corporations accountable on behalf of my clients. In some cases, corporations will not stop such treatment unless they are held financially accountable.

Jack graduated cum laude from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 1984, before earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1987 from the City University of New York Law School at Queens College, a public interest law school dedicated to “law in the service of human needs.” Jack has dedicated his entire legal career to the representation of indigent defendants in criminal law cases as well as the prosecution of civil rights and women’s rights cases in state and federal court. He began his career as a public defender in the Bronx, where he successfully tried numerous cases to verdict as a senior trial attorney, and he is still putting that courtroom ground warfare experience to good use representing Occupy Wall Street patriots who were arrested for civil disobedience protesting on the Brooklyn Bridge back on October 1, 2011.
