Patrick DeRouen founded DeRouen Law Firm in 2009. He was previously a partner at Porteous, Hainkel and Johnson, L.L.P., from 1995 to 2008, and an associate with the firm from 1990 to 1995. Prior to obtaining his law license Pat was employed as a commercial loan officer with Century Bank. Mr. DeRouen obtained his law degree from Tulane Law School, cum laude, in 1990. He also received his MBA from Loyola University New Orleans in 1990 where he was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu and Beta Gamma Sigma national honor fraternities. In 2001, Pat graduated from the Loyola Institute of Politics. While in law school, he was a member of the National Order of Barristers and the Moot Court Honor Board. Mr. DeRouen was the Moot Court Junior and Senior Trial winner and was the winner of the Louisiana Trial Competition. He also received the Walter J. Suthon Award for Louisiana Security Rights. Mr. DeRouen specializes in the areas of general civil litigation, insurance defense, trucking law, transportation law, fraud/SIU investigations and projects, business interruption/loss of income, hurricane/national disaster litigation, commercial litigation, insurance coverage disputes, arson/property theft cases, extra-contractual damages and governmental affairs. He has extensive trial and appellate experience in all Louisiana State and Federal courts and is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Mr. DeRouen has also been a speaker at various CLE conferences including the presentations of Dealing with Disasters: Emergency Management For Your Company and Law Firm - Considerations for Medium and Small Law Firms and Businesses at the Transportation Mega Conference IX, March 5-6, 2009; Water Under and Over the Bridge: Litigating Property Cases in the Wake of Hurricane Katrina at the Southeastern Claims Executive Association, April 24, 2006, Annual Meeting, Hutchison Island, Florida; and Is it Covered? Pat has also spoken at numerous other seminars on a wide array of topics. Mr. DeRouen is a member of the following organizations: Trucking Industry Defense Association; American Bar Association: TIPS/Commercial Transportation Committee; DRI: Transportation/Trucking Committee; Federal Bar Association; Louisiana State Bar Association; Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel; New Orleans Association of Defense Counsel; New Orleans Bar Association; and Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, 2004-2008. He was voted a 2008 Louisiana Super Lawyer. Mr. DeRouen is AV peer rated. He is currently a Traffic Hearing Officer for the First Parish Court, Parish of Jefferson, State of Louisiana and an Adjunct Professor of Trial Advocacy at Tulane University Law School. Mr. DeRouen is actively involved in community affairs. He has served as the Young Alumni Representative to the Loyola University Alumni Board of Directors, the Executive Advisory Board of the Loyola University College of Business Administration, the Board of Directors of the Acorn Adoption Agency, the Committee for a Better New Orleans (Sub-Committee, City Government and Finance) and the Lakeshore Property Owners Association. In addition, he has served as the area chairman in Jefferson Parish for Ducks Unlimited. He is currently a member of the St. Pius X Men Club. Mr. DeRouen is married to the former Ms. Ann Marino and is the father of Mary Elizabeth, 15, and the late Katherine Ann, 1997-2004.
