About Christina Campolo

Christina Campolo concentrates her practice in the areas of Matrimonial and Family Law. Admitted to the Bar in New York, Christina joined the Law Office of Ellen Holtzman because, she says, "I wanted to hone my skills with a master in Family Law, and Ellen's name was on every list of the leading matrimonial lawyers. Her reputation in the legal community was outstanding. I heard 'highly principled,' 'amazing litigator,' 'wise and caring,' and 'a real stateswoman.' This was exactly the kind of lawyer I wanted to work with."

A Wide Range of Responsibilities

As Ellen's associate, Christina conducts legal research for both trial and appellate cases, assists in drafting Family Court, Supreme Court, and Appellate Court documents, works with Ellen on trial preparation, and handles a wide range of cases in the courts. In addition to her roles in the courtroom, Christina drafts affidavits, discovery requests, discovery responses, motions, petitions, settlement agreements, statements of net worth, statements of proposed disposition, subpoenas, and post-trial memoranda in the areas of Matrimonial and Family law. Christina says, "We all realize that we are helping people through a very difficult time in their lives, so the whole staff is attentive and responsive to the clients, which takes a lot of the stress out of the process."

Strategic Negotiators on Your Side

Christina understands that even a relatively peaceful divorce can produce stress and upheaval in family life. She is dedicated to assisting clients as they deal with the repercussions of divorce on their own lives, the lives of their children, and on the family finances. With meticulous attention to detail, Christina helps clients to identify the crucial issues in their particular situations. Together with Ellen, she is often able to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to reach a favorable settlement. Ellen Holtzman says, "Divorces, even the acrimonious ones, are usually settled in negotiation. People understand the risk of having a judge decide these important personal issues. Christina has remarkable communication skills and she listens until she feels that she has elicited and understands all the specifics of the situation, and all possible areas of agreement. The client prioritizes his or her goals, and we make it our mission to achieve them. Based on the insight gained through groundwork and careful preparation, we develop a strategic plan to negotiate every issue. Christina brings a great deal of creativity and expertise to negotiation and settlement. She is a pleasure to work with and a real asset at the settlement table."

An Internship with the Office of the Rockland County District Attorney

A Rockland County native and graduate of Clarkstown North, Christina Campolo was initially unsure of what path to pursue. Then she was offered and accepted a student internship that would change her life. She was drawn to the practice of law while working in the office of the Rockland County District Attorney. "That's where I got a real taste of what's involved in a case. I interviewed victims and law enforcement officials, attended court, observed jury selections and trials, and helped prepare cases for court appearances," she said. Christina Campolo also interned for the Honorable Nelson S. Roman, a judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York in White Plains.

Drawn to Matrimonial and Family Law

During law school, Christina worked with the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) under a student practice order, which permitted her to appear in court on behalf of clients. As a member of the St. John's Domestic Violence Clinic, she advocated for victims of domestic violence inside and outside of court. She appeared in Integrated Domestic Violence Court and in Family Courts in cases of domestic violence, child custody, and child support in courtrooms in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn. It was during her work with NYLAG that she decided to focus her law practice in the areas of Matrimonial and Family Law. As a practicing attorney, Christina Campolo has appeared in Supreme Courts, Family Courts, and Integrated Domestic Violence Courts in Rockland County, Westchester (White Plains, Yonkers, and New Rochelle) and Orange County, as well as in Manhattan.
