About Mr. Walton Ward Hickman

Walton grew up in Greenville, Alabama, where he attended Butler County Public Schools from kindergarten until his graduation from Greenville High School in 1997. Following high school, he attended The University of Alabama where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Information Sciences. Walton then attended Jones School of Law where he earned a Juris Doctorate in 2006.

Walton joined The Long Brothers in February of 2019. Walton’s practice areas include 18-wheeler, motorcycle and automobile wrecks, industrial accidents, product defects, catastrophic injury, wrongful death and fraud. Prior to joining Long & Long, Walton worked for The Citrin Law Firm and Hartley & Hickman, where he also represented injured people and other clients injured by the wrongdoing of others. Over the course of his career, Walton has represented both corporate and individual clients with a variety of legal issues; including, but not limited to: estate planning, real estate matters, landlord tenant problems, probate matters, domestic relations, personal injury cases and the defense thereof. Walton is experienced in both transactional and trial work, and is certified in Alternative Dispute Resolutions. Having been certified in Alternative Dispute Resolutions, has enabled Walton to be retained as a mediator in several cases, each of which he was able to successfully assist the parties settle their disputes during mediation. Walton also worked as an assistant district attorney for the Second Judicial Circuit for seven years, in addition to, and while also working in private practice. While working as a prosecutor for the district attorney he acquired a wealth of trial experience, having spent countless hours in court trying both district and circuit court cases. Additionally, Walton was the assistant city attorney for the cities of Evergreen, Greenville, Georgiana, and the Town of McKenzie from 2006 through 2016.

Throughout his career Walton has settled hundreds of personal injury cases, with several settlements being in excess of a million dollars.

Walton is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern, Southern, and Middle Districts of Alabama. He is a member of Alabama State Bar, The Baldwin County Bar Association, The Mobile County Bar Association, The Butler County Bar Association, The American Association for Justice, and The Alabama Association for Justice. Walton served on the Executive Council for the Alabama State Bar Young Lawyers Section for several years and was a delegate at the 2014 American Bar Association Young Lawyers Assembly in Chicago.

Walton has been active in the community as well, he is a past board member for the SAFE Harbor Child Advocacy Center, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Board of Directors of the Greenville Kiwanis Club, the Board of Directors for the Greenville Area Jaycees, the Board of Directors for the Greenville High School Athletic Club, and I was a charter member and helped found the Butler County Farmer’s Market. Walton has also coached youth football, basketball, and baseball for the past 10 years.

Walton is married to Sarah Whitfield Hickman, and they have three children, Addie Hickman, 12, Ward Hickman, 11, and Anne Miller Hickman, 8, and currently reside in Orange Beach, Alabama.

In his spare time Walton enjoys hunting, fishing, basketball, and golf.
